Enhancing Crisis Management Capabilities: CMDR COE Trains Iraqi FEDPOL

In response to a formal request for support from NATO Mission Iraq (NMI), the CMDR COE successfully conducted a comprehensive three-day training program from April 22 to April 24, 2025, aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the Iraqi Federal Police (FEDPOL) in crisis management and disaster response. This initiative underscores the commitment of both the CMDR COE and NATO in fostering resilience and preparedness within Iraq’s security framework.
The Iraqi FEDPOL plays a critical role in coordinating and collaborating with various security services and governmental structures to effectively address the risks posed by natural disasters and crises, including those stemming from terrorist activities. Their mission is focused not only on countering these threats but also on minimizing the adverse impacts they may have on the civilian population and infrastructure.
During the training sessions, which were expertly delivered through online lectures from the state-of-the-art CMDR COE studio, participants engaged in an in-depth exploration of several key topics. These included foundational concepts of Capacity Building as an essential element for Crisis Prevention, as well as thorough insights into the fundamentals of Crisis Management. Additionally, the program covered the importance of Civil Preparedness as part of a broader strategy for Layered Resilience, equipping participants with valuable Crisis Management Tools that can be implemented during emergencies.
The training initiative provided an interactive platform for the Iraqi FEDPOL to enhance their operational readiness, share best practices, and strengthen inter-agency collaboration. Participants benefited from the expertise of CMDR COE trainers, who possess extensive experience in crisis response and disaster management.
This training marks a significant milestone in the ongoing partnership between the CMDR COE and NMI. It is a vital step towards establishing a long-term collaboration focused on conducting further training programs and exercises aimed at bolstering the capabilities of government institutions in Iraq. Such initiatives are crucial as they promote sustainable development, security, and stability in the region.
