Crisis Management and Disaster Response Course successfully completed

The aim of the event was building of basic knowledge and awareness on NATO Crisis Response fundamentals, NATO Crisis Response System (NCRS), and its complementary elements - NATO Crisis Response Process (NCRP), and Civil Emergency Planning - civil preparedness and resilience in a collective defence and deterrence context, according to NATO “baseline requirements”.
The Crisis Management and Disaster Response course is the Center’s overarching course giving the whole picture of the Crisis and Disaster Management processes within the International community and particular – in NATO. The interest in this course increases with each iteration.
The course participants highly appreciated the lectures of guest instructors from OSDIFE (Observatory on Security and CBRN Defense) – Mr Stefano SCAINI, from the NATO MILMED COE Dr Silke Ruhl, from CEPC Mr. Stefan DELCHEV, from War Studies University, Poland, Prof. Maciej MARSZAŁEK, from EEAS Mr. Teemu TAMMIKKO, from Polish MOD LTC Dariusz DOBRON and from European Commission Mr. Peter BONEV.
All the trainees received a profound knowledge on the Crisis and Consequence Management of CBRN and IED (Improvised Explosive Devices) threats, and in addition they got the perspective on how the most powerful international organizations contribute to managing disaster response complexity all over the world.
They also received basic knowledge about Infectious Diseases, Examples of Pandemics and Epidemics over time and the process of Force Health Protection (FHP).
The course was attended by representatives of different civil and military structures and institutions from Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Italy, Poland, Tunisia and USA, including three interns.
The course objectives were achieved and complemented by detailed and productive teamwork, being a challenge for the attendees to learn how to implement the team tasks in a virtual classroom reality.

Internal CMDR COE Seminar on the Crisis in Syria

The CMDR COE organised an internal seminar which was held on 20.12.2013. The main focus of the seminar was the crisis in Syria. The CMDR COE experts discussed issued related to the chronology of the crisis; the increased influx of refugees to neighbouring countries and Bulgaria; the positions of NATO, the UN and EU; the involvement of international humanitarian organisations etc.

Visualizing Implications of Climate Change on Military Activities and Relationships was conducted

On 11-12 December 2013, the Crisis Management and Disaster Response Centre of Excellence (CMDR COE) co-hosted together with US European Command (USEUCOM) and the US embassy in Bulgaria the workshop Visualizing Implications of Climate Change on Military Activities and Relationships. The opening remarks were given by the Deputy Minister of Defence of Bulgaria, Mr. Ivan Ivanov, who welcomed the participants and underlined the importance of the topics that the workshop focused on.
