Every year in November the world celebrates Geographic Information Systems Day.

 

At the same time, the World GIS Day in Bulgaria for more than 20 years is a major platform for sharing and exchanging experiences, for presenting innovations, trends and good practices in the field of geospatial technologies. The host and official organizer of the event is Esri Bulgaria – the company that this year celebrates 25 years since its establishment.

 

An online conference was held in Bulgaria on November 18 on the occasion of the World Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Day, where leading international and Bulgarian experts presented the latest developments, solutions, and good practices in the field of geospatial technologies and their application in the coronavirus pandemic and crisis management, environment, security, engineering infrastructure, urban planning and development, and much more.

 

One of the main highlights of the forum’s program was the implementation of GIS in support of efforts to combat Covid-19.

Internal CMDR COE Seminar on the Crisis in Syria

The CMDR COE organised an internal seminar which was held on 20.12.2013. The main focus of the seminar was the crisis in Syria. The CMDR COE experts discussed issued related to the chronology of the crisis; the increased influx of refugees to neighbouring countries and Bulgaria; the positions of NATO, the UN and EU; the involvement of international humanitarian organisations etc.

Visualizing Implications of Climate Change on Military Activities and Relationships was conducted

On 11-12 December 2013, the Crisis Management and Disaster Response Centre of Excellence (CMDR COE) co-hosted together with US European Command (USEUCOM) and the US embassy in Bulgaria the workshop Visualizing Implications of Climate Change on Military Activities and Relationships. The opening remarks were given by the Deputy Minister of Defence of Bulgaria, Mr. Ivan Ivanov, who welcomed the participants and underlined the importance of the topics that the workshop focused on.
