YOUR BENEFITS OF JOINING US
A NATO Centre of Excellence is Smart Defence in action. There are many benefits from joining the CMDR COE, but the principle reason to join would be the significant cost saving over maintaining your own national capabilities. The establishment costs for the Centre, including the CMDR COE infrastructure, initial equipment and support staff, are provided by the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Bulgaria. Operating costs are shared between Sponsoring Nations, significantly reducing the cost to any individual nation whilst retaining the complete value of the Centre's work for all.
The NATO CMDR COE concept of operations has been carefully crafted to complement but not compete with NATO activities in progress or with the work of other NATO COEs.

Through joining us as a Sponsoring Nation of the COE, your country will be able to realize a number of benefits, including the following:
- ACCESS TO MULTINATIONAL EXPERTISE
Through membership of the CMDR COE, your nation will have access to the collective knowledge of the Centre, including the results of studies, CMDR COE products, lessons learned etc.
- DIRECT INFLUENCE ON CMDR COE'S PROGRAMME OF WORK
As a Sponsoring Nation, you will be able to shape the Centre's annual programme of work through the Centre's Steering Committee. This gives you the opportunity to align the Centre's work with your national requirements and support your nation's capability development.
- ACCESS TO EDUCATION AND TRAINING
The Centre will be providing free courses to Sponsoring Nations' personnel. This is an additional mechanism for transferring knowledge for the benefit of your national projects. Non-sponsoring nations will be required to pay course fees.
- INCREASED INTEROPERABILITY IN THE AREA OF CMDR
International cooperation and the collaboration with the industry and the academia is a fundamental aspect of all CMDR COE activities. The daily interaction of experts with different fields of expertise, backgrounds, as well as nationality, plays a crucial role in increasing the interoperability and quality of all products of the Centre.
